Anthropic announced that it will merge Claude Cowork with the standard version of Claude Chat into a unified platform, allowing users to have Claude automatically call tools such as web search, file analysis, code execution, spreadsheets, reports, and presentations according to the complexity of the task without switching between chat and collaboration modes.

At the beginning of this year, Anthropic launched Claude Cowork, which is positioned to handle complex multi-step tasks. After this integration, complex tasks can continue to run in the cloud even if users close their computers, exit the mobile app, or leave Claude. Users can also run multiple tasks simultaneously and check the progress through the mobile app. At the same time, Anthropic directly integrates Claude Docs, Claude Slides, and Claude Design into the chat interface, supporting the creation and editing of documents, presentations, designs, charts, and other visual content within the conversation.

Existing Cowork users' tasks, projects, contacts, skills, portfolios, and files will be automatically migrated, but after upgrading to the unified interface, users will not be able to switch back to the independent chat and collaboration mode. Currently, the new experience does not support functions such as "adding from GitHub" or continuing tasks from previous conversation nodes; early Cowork tasks are not included in the search and can only be found in the "Recent" section. Private chats are still available, but users cannot create files or run code within them; Dispatch is currently only available for existing users.

The unified experience will first be rolled out to Pro, Max users on the web, desktop, and mobile versions, followed by Team and Free users. Enterprise customers will receive at least 30 days' notice before the change.
