OpenAI Announces GPT-5.5 Will Be Discontinued on October 14: ChatGPT and Codex Removed Simultaneously

OpenAI announced on September 16 that GPT-5.5 will be removed from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex on October 14, covering all subscription plans.

OpenAI also reminded users of Codex who are using GPT-5.5 to switch to GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra as soon as possible. The official stated that the deactivation scope includes all plans; for Codex users still relying on GPT-5.5, the available alternative models are GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6 Astra.

According to previous reports, OpenAI announced the release of the GPT-5.5 model on April 24 this year, which can reduce token consumption when completing the same tasks compared to GPT-5.4.
