The European Commission has officially announced that the chatbot ChatGPT, owned by OpenAI, the popular social forum Reddit, and the gaming platform Roblox have been classified as "very large online platforms" and must fully comply with the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA) cybersecurity regulations. This designation marks the expansion of the EU's strict digital regulation to the field of generative AI.

According to the regulations, these three services have more than 45 million monthly active users in the EU, meeting the enhanced review threshold set by the DSA. Once included in this category, they face a series of additional legal obligations, including strictly removing illegal content and comprehensively protecting the privacy and safety of minors. If companies fail to meet the requirements, they may face heavy fines of up to 6% of their global annual revenue.

In fact, the EU has already laid the groundwork for regulating the field of generative AI. Previously, the AI chatbot Grok, under the social media platform X, had already been investigated for suspected violations of the DSA. With ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox now officially included in the regulatory scope, they must complete all compliance adjustments and fulfill additional obligations by the end of this year. This also reflects the EU's tightening control over high-risk online services and new AI tools.
