According to the latest industry updates, OpenAI's advertising business, ChatGPT Ads, has successfully reached a run rate of $1 billion within less than 200 days since its official launch. Notably, just six weeks into the pilot phase, the annualized revenue had already surpassed $100 million, demonstrating remarkable explosive growth and strong monetization capabilities.
With the rapid growth of the business, OpenAI has also updated its long-term revenue expectations. Faced with both external competition and internal development pressures, it is estimated that the company's full-year ad revenue will reach $2.4 billion by 2026. Looking further ahead, this number is expected to grow exponentially: by 2027, ad revenue is projected to approach $11 billion; by 2030, it could surge to as high as $102 billion. From a per-user perspective, the average ad revenue per user is expected to jump from nearly $3.50 this year to nearly $60 by 2030.

This highly promising business model is not an illusion. As users often naturally articulate their specific goals and constraints behind purchasing decisions during multiple rounds of AI conversations, the ad system can capture more rich and accurate user intent compared to traditional single search queries or information feed exposures. Based on this deep intent matching, tens of thousands of advertisers have already used the platform to reach audiences, covering over 40 countries. Meanwhile, its self-service features are rapidly expanding to regions such as India, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.
While the business scale expands quickly, the platform has firmly maintained the boundaries of user experience and data privacy. Currently, the weekly active users of ChatGPT have exceeded 1 billion, while ad placements are strictly limited to the Free and Go tiers. In terms of commercial mechanisms, OpenAI has established strict firewalls: although the system can screen and match relevant ads based on the conversation context, advertisers cannot directly access users' private conversation content, and paid promotions must not alter or affect the objective answers generated by the AI itself.
