That's why the startup Blacksmith, which focuses on code testing and verification, has experienced explosive growth.
Recently, the company announced a new Series B funding round of $4.5 million, led by PeakXV Partners, with existing investors GV and YCombinator participating. Notably, its valuation has surged nearly tenfold in less than a year, rising from $60 million after its $10 million Series A round to $550 million, with a total funding amount reaching $5.85 million.
Founded in 2024, Blacksmith aims to help enterprises complete building, testing, and verification before software goes live. With the popularity of AI programming tools like Cursor, Codex, and ClaudeCode, code generation has become effortless, but quality control has become a new bottleneck. The company's founder and CEO, Aditya Jayaprakash, pointed out that the more code people write, the more the pressure for verification increases exponentially.
Initially, Blacksmith entered the market as a cloud service provider for continuous integration workloads. Today, its business has expanded to include an AI programming assistant called Codesmith, which automatically fixes failed code checks. Currently, the platform's customer base has grown from over 700 a year ago to more than 5,000, including well-known companies such as Mercury, Supabase, Clerk, Ashby, and Expensify.
In terms of team size, the company has achieved a "tens of millions of dollars" annualized revenue run rate with only about 30 employees, and some major customers spend more than $1 million per year. However, facing intense competition, Blacksmith is also facing pressure from GitHub Actions, built-in verification features of major AI tools, and the combined forces of traditional cloud giants Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. The team said that in the future, they will continue to expand the code tool ecosystem and help developers write, verify, and merge software at a faster speed.
