July 13 report, the U.S. AI unicorn Anthropic has started offering localized Indian Rupee (INR) pricing services for its Claude product in India, its second-largest global market, which accounts for 5.8% of its global user base.

This adjustment covers the official website and mobile app. After including local taxes, the subscription price for Claude Pro is 2000 rupees per month (approximately 21 US dollars); the starting price for Claude Max is 11999 rupees per month (approximately 125 US dollars); and the team package starts at 2399 rupees per person per month (approximately 25 US dollars).

Currently, users still need to make payments through bank cards or Apple and Google's app store systems, but it does not support the widely used UPI real-time payment network in India. Its main competitor, OpenAI's ChatGPT, previously supported rupee and UPI payments.

This move marks an important step for Anthropic to deepen its presence in the Indian market. The company appointed Irina Ghose, former general manager of Microsoft India, to lead its Indian operations in January, and its office in Bangalore was officially launched in February. In recent months, Anthropic has also partnered with major Indian IT service companies such as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to expand enterprise-level AI deployment.

Although it caused concerns among local developers in June due to a temporary restriction on non-U.S. entities accessing its Fable5 and Mythos5 models, this rupee pricing implementation marks its full acceleration of commercialization and monetization in this large and price-sensitive developer market.
