According to an internal memo recently disclosed by Xinxi Bao, tech giant Meta is secretly developing a AI-powered wearable pendant and plans to launch testing in 2027. The core technology of the device mainly stems from the research results of the AI hardware startup Limitless, which Meta acquired at the end of 2025.
Limitless previously launched an AI pendant that can be clipped onto a shirt or worn as a necklace, focusing on voice recording and smart analysis functions. At that time, Meta stated that this acquisition aimed to accelerate the development of its AI wearable devices.

Amid the general consumer setbacks faced by early AI wearable devices due to privacy concerns, insufficient practicality, and misaligned market positioning, Meta's bold investment signals a shift in the underlying hardware ecosystem. In addition to the AI pendant, the memo also reveals that Meta plans to further expand its existing AI glasses product line and introduce a corporate subscription service called "Wearables for Work."
This series of intensive strategic moves indicates that Meta is trying to reverse the financial downturn of its Reality Labs department, which focuses on hardware development, through a commercialization path integrating software and hardware. Data shows that this department recorded a massive loss of $4 billion in the first quarter of 2026. This move not only demonstrates the continued confidence of leading companies in portable AI interaction devices but also marks the evolution of AI hardware competition from niche geek toys to more mature enterprise-level and ecosystem-level markets.
