Google has announced that its first smart glasses will be officially launched this autumn. This wearable device, developed in collaboration with Samsung and the eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, introduces a new AI audio glasses series. The new glasses run on Google's specially developed Android XR platform for smart glasses and AR/VR devices, featuring built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones, but the lenses themselves do not have a display.

Google has already showcased two designs from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, stating that both companies will launch their full line of styles at the time of product release to meet different users' appearance needs. All styles will support Google's Gemini AI system, which will be deeply integrated into all functions of the glasses. Users can activate Gemini by saying "Hey Google" or tapping the side of the frame to enable voice interaction.

In terms of functionality, Gemini will use the glasses' camera and sensors to provide information services closely related to the surrounding environment. Users can get reviews of nearby restaurants, identify cloud formations in the sky, or quickly understand complex parking signs. In addition, the glasses support visual-based navigation features, providing step-by-step navigation and adding waypoints based on user preferences.

This smart glasses also have communication and multimedia functions similar to traditional smartphones. Users can manage calls and send messages through voice and listen to music directly on the glasses. The glasses also support photo and video recording and can use Google's Nano Banana image editing engine for intelligent editing.

Notably, Gemini is not only capable of handling simple commands but can also complete multi-step tasks, such as ordering coffee through DoorDash. Google has also clearly stated that this smart glasses will support both Android smartphones and Apple iPhones, thus covering a broader user base. At the same time, Apple is also developing its own AI smart glasses, expected to be released in 2027.

Google plans to release "display glasses" with small lens displays in the future, allowing information from Gemini to be displayed directly on the lenses. However, such products will be launched in future stages after the release of the first smart glasses.
