Google's smart note-taking and research tool NotebookLM has received a major upgrade. According to cnBeta, the tool recently launched the "Cinematic Video Overviews" feature. This marks the official evolution of NotebookLM's output format from simple narrative slides to professional-level videos with smooth animations and refined visual effects.

This upgrade deeply integrates Google's most advanced generative AI matrix. The system uses Gemini3 as the "creative director," responsible for building the narrative structure and controlling the visual style; at the same time, it combines Nano Banana Pro and Veo3 models to transform users' uploaded research materials into dynamic visual content.
Different from previous features that could only generate simple animated videos with AI hosts, the new feature emphasizes "consistency" and "narrative depth." The AI will automatically decide the best visual presentation based on the user's specified focus and repeatedly optimize the visuals to ensure that the final product is not just a collection of information, but more like a well-structured documentary.
Currently, this feature is available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers on the web and mobile platforms, and in the initial phase, it only supports English and users aged 18 and above. Google has not yet revealed when this feature will be released to regular paid plans or the free version.
Notably, as the video function of NotebookLM becomes more popular, the compliance of AI voice has also sparked controversy. Recently, NPR host David Greene has filed a lawsuit against Google, accusing the tool of generating an AI male voice extremely similar to his, leading to public confusion. This reminds us that while enjoying the convenience of AI video creation, issues of technological ethics and copyright protection remain critical challenges for the industry.
