Today, Alibaba announced that it has unified the core brand of its AI business under "Qwen." This rebranding marks a further focus on Alibaba's AI strategy: the original "Tongyi Qianwen" series has been officially renamed to "Qwen Large Model," covering foundational large models and specialized domain models; the consumer-side flagship application has also been renamed to "Qwen APP"; while "Tongyi Lab" will continue to exist as the organizational name of Alibaba Group's AI research and development institution.

The brand integration is backed by the strong performance of the Qwen Large Model in both technology and market aspects. On Chinese New Year's Eve this year, Alibaba open-sourced the Qwen3.5 series model. With outstanding performance and energy efficiency, several models in this series occupied the top four positions on the global open-source large model rankings of Hugging Face, becoming one of the most active open-source models in the global developer community.

In terms of market data, during the 2026 Spring Festival, the number of "one-sentence orders" made by users of Qwen APP reached nearly 200 million. According to QuestMobile statistics, the daily active users (DAU) of Qwen during the Spring Festival reached 73.52 million, with a growth rate of 940%, ranking first among domestic AI applications, demonstrating a trend toward becoming a national-level AI assistant.

Industry analysis suggests that Alibaba's move to unify its brand aims to strengthen its leadership position in the open-source ecosystem and consumer market through brand simplification and cognitive consolidation. As the Qwen3.5 system becomes more complete, domestic large models are accelerating their alignment with global top levels in terms of open-source depth and application penetration. This trend of transitioning from technological leadership to brand ecosystem development will further reshape the competitive landscape of the domestic large model industry.
