Google announced on Monday that it will begin rolling out the Gemini voice assistant to its Google TV streaming player, officially replacing the existing Google Assistant. This move is an important step in the company's strategy to integrate Gemini into all platforms.
This upgrade aims to allow users to access content and features in a more natural and conversational way through more advanced AI capabilities. For example, users can now ask complex cross-context queries such as "I like dramas, but my wife likes comedies. What movies can we watch together?" or quickly learn about the plot of a show they're following, such as "What happened at the end of the previous season of Outlander?"

Gemini's capabilities go beyond entertainment; it brings the general abilities of AI assistants from smartphones to the television. Users can ask learning-related questions such as "Please explain to my third-grade child why volcanoes erupt," or get instructions for DIY projects or recipes through YouTube videos. Users just need to press the microphone button on the remote control to activate the assistant. This update will be rolled out to users aged 18 and above in the coming weeks.
This deployment was expected, as Google had previously announced at this year's CES that Gemini would come to Google TV, and it has confirmed that it will support devices such as the Walmart Onn4K Pro streaming device, as well as future 2025 models from Hisense and TCL televisions.
