Midjourney Major Update: Personalized Customization Enhanced, Inspiration 'Mood Board' Introduced

Renowned AI image generator Midjourney has over 19 million users. Recently, it launched a series of new features aimed at further enhancing the personalized customization experience for users.

The highlight of this Midjourney update is the introduction of a Pinterest-style "Mood Board" feature, which supports multiple personalized configurations. This means users can now create and switch between multiple customized versions of Midjourney's latest image generation model 6.1 to cater to their unique aesthetic preferences.

This update aims to streamline the creative process for individuals and teams, making it easier to integrate personalized styles across projects.

New "Mood Board": Your Personal Source of Inspiration

The "Mood Board" feature allows users to upload a carefully curated collection of images to serve as inspiration for generating new artworks. The AI model learns from the diversity and complexity of these uploaded images, creating a unique style profile that cleverly blends visual elements.

For example, if I upload a set of images in a certain style and name it "Flower Girl," Midjourney quickly extracts the unified features of these images, such as style and tone.

We just need to copy the code, and we can automatically invoke this style when generating images.

In addition to the "Mood Board," users can also create multiple personalized configurations, allowing for seamless management and application of different styles. The speed of creating customized models has also significantly improved, with the image ranking speed reportedly increasing fivefold.

Custom Model Training: Faster and More Convenient

The so-called "ranking" system refers to how Midjourney trains custom models on behalf of users. Users need to enter Midjourney's image ranker, select their preferred image from pairs of randomly generated images, and continuously score pairs of images until the model understands the types of images and aesthetic styles the user prefers.

Now, users only need to score 40 times to start creating their profiles, and 200 scores are needed for optimal stability. Previously, users had to score 200 times to customize a model. While heavy users may still prefer to score thousands of times for maximum precision, this streamlined process lowers the entry barrier for new users.

Enhanced Management Features

This update also introduces several improvements to management features. Users can now name their profiles, set one or more profiles as default, and track all images associated with specific profiles.

Midjourney emphasizes that these features are particularly beneficial for users who need to handle multiple projects simultaneously or collaborate with others.

David Holz, the founder of Midjourney, shared this update on the company's Discord server. He explained the motivation behind the update, expressing a desire to allow a broader range of creative workflows to enjoy the convenience of personalized customization. Holz emphasized that the new tools empower users to take control of their projects while maintaining flexibility in collaborating with different creative teams.

As Midjourney continues to refine its personalization infrastructure, the company is seeking user feedback through its "ideas-and-features" channel. The update comes after Midjourney announced an experimental new collaborative image creation whiteboard feature called Patchwork last week.
