OpenAI Invests in Legal Tech Company Harvey, Securing $80 Million in Funding


Sources say Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google had begun talks to jointly establish an AI industry standards body before Anthropic's CEO publicly called for it. Since July, working groups below CEO level from the three companies have met regularly. OpenAI CEO Altman also internally supported creating an AI testing and auditing body.....
According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is reportedly planning to acquire smartphone camera manufacturer Glass Imaging for over 300 million dollars. The company was founded in California in 2019 and raised about 30 million dollars in funding. Its founders are former Apple engineers who led the Apple portrait mode team, using neural networks to optimize camera imaging. OpenAI has not yet commented.
OpenAI has been revealed to have hired hundreds of contract workers to review real ChatGPT user conversations, rating responses on a scale from 1 to 7 to improve the model, with a focus on reducing excessive flattery and anthropomorphism. Many users are unaware that their chats may be read by real people; anonymization can still contain sensitive personal information, and OpenAI's privacy filter has also been acknowledged to potentially have vulnerabilities.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has expressed support for slowing down AI development to avoid advanced model capabilities exceeding human control. His views align with those of the CEO of Anthropic. He acknowledges that prioritizing safety comes at a cost, but it helps maintain public confidence and demonstrates that U.S. companies can take responsibility as they develop increasingly powerful AI.
OpenAI announced four updates, covering agents, voice, data, and finance. Among them, the Agents API has attracted the most attention, splitting the Codex capabilities into cloud services, lowering the entry barrier for agent development with the concept of 'capabilities as a service'. This marks OpenAI's shift from selling a single model to building a developer ecosystem, representing a key implementation of the Codex strategy.
