Google seems to be preparing to embed Gemini into Gmail's inbox, letting AI take over the tedious task of replying to emails on behalf of users. Clues come from the latest version of the Gmail app (version number v2026.09.28) APK decompilation—developers found multiple segments of related code in the installation package, indicating that this email client may be developing an AI agent powered by Gemini, capable of automatically handling email replies.

From comments hidden in the code, once the feature is launched, the AI inbox in Gmail will display a "Use Gemini" button next to the to-do list. When users click it, Gemini will actively scan the inbox and, when encountering emails that need a response, the interface will pop up a "Draft Reply" option, with the AI drafting a draft first.

Google isn't handing full control to the machine this time. The code shows that when Gemini is unsure what to do next, it will ask the user for help; some emails also require manual confirmation before they are sent. Corresponding strings mark these stages requiring human intervention as "Needs Your Input," and users can click the "Provide Input" button to fill in the specific information needed to complete the task, allowing the AI to proceed. In other words, it functions more like an assistant who needs to ask for permission before writing, rather than acting as an agent who sends letters on your behalf without consent.

At present, all of this remains at the stage of APK decomposition evidence, and Google has not officially announced it. The final form may also differ from what the code suggests. However, the fact that the email application is beginning to include an intelligent agent that can read emails, draft responses, and know when to stop and ask you for input already outlines a clear direction: the most time-consuming manual operations in daily communication are gradually being moved to the hands of AI.
