Qualcomm officially announced two new flagship smartphone processors at its annual Snapdragon Summit — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen6. These two new chips focus on AI empowerment as their core strength, aiming to provide mobile devices with more powerful on-device intelligence computing power, further promoting the deep personalization of AI agents on smartphones.

In terms of core architecture and support for local large models, these chips are equipped with a new sensing hub that can support running small models with up to 200 million parameters. With this upgrade, smartphones can run a local voice note-taking assistant, accurately distinguish between different speakers' voices, and build local memories based on users' daily usage habits, thereby providing more accurate intelligent suggestions for automated tasks and achieving a complete voice-in and voice-out intelligent agent experience.

In terms of computing power performance and specific model differences, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 introduces a new accelerator component that can run various AI models more efficiently. The high-end Extreme version is even more powerful, capable of running a mixture of experts model (MoE) with up to 30 billion parameters directly on the device. This means that although the overall model size reaches 30 billion parameters, the system will dynamically activate only the required number of parameters when handling specific tasks, thus significantly reducing energy consumption while maintaining performance. In comparison, Apple had previously released a 200-billion-parameter mixture of experts model at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

Aside from powerful AI computing power, both new chips also bring comprehensive upgrades in image and audio processing. The new CPU offers pixel-level camera control capabilities, delivering a more professional photography experience and further optimizing image stabilization and motion understanding. The Extreme version supports 8K 60fps video recording and 4K 240fps ultra-high-definition slow-motion shooting, while introducing a new advanced professional video (APV) codec. In terms of audio, both chips can enhance human voices through AI and reduce background noise, and they also feature Qualcomm's new voice bubble technology, which effectively isolates ambient noise during calls.

In terms of terminal product implementation, Motorola announced the launch of a new flagship phone, the Motorola Signature 27, equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen6 chip, which is expected to be officially released this year. Industry analysts believe that as chip giants like Qualcomm continue to improve on-device AI performance, smartphones remain the most essential device for popularizing artificial intelligence applications among the general public.
