According to Business Insider, Forbes has released the annual list of the 400 wealthiest people in the United States. The threshold for inclusion this year has risen to $4.4 billion, a record high. The number of billionaires under the age of 40 increased from 4 last year to 10 this year, with 7 of them deriving their wealth from the AI boom and mostly being founders.

Among these seven AI billionaires, four come from the same company - Anthropic. This five-year-old AI company currently has a secondary market valuation of $1.5 trillion, and its seven co-founders have all pledged to donate 80% of their personal wealth to charity this year. The remaining three are from Surge AI, OpenAI, and Cognition.

The Top 10: From Walmart Heir to AI Entrepreneur

Looking specifically, 39-year-old Lucas Walton is first on the list with a net worth of $44.4 billion. He is the grandson of Walmart founder Sam Walton and the only young person on the list who inherited his wealth, running the impact investment group Builders Vision.

Tom Brown and Daniela Amodei, both 39 years old, each have a net worth of $15.5 billion. The former is the Chief Computing Officer at Anthropic and was involved in launching GPT-3, while the latter serves as the President and Chairperson of the Board at Anthropic. In 2021, she and her brother Dario left OpenAI to co-found Anthropic. Jack Clark, 37 years old, and Sam McCandlish, 36 years old, also have a net worth of $15.5 billion, responsible for the internal think tank operations and model architecture at Anthropic, respectively.

Greg Brockman, 37 years old, is the president and co-founder of OpenAI, with a net worth of $25.5 billion, making him the richest AI entrepreneur on the list. Edwin Chen, 38 years old, founded data labeling and AI training company Surge AI, which generates over $1 billion in annual revenue, with a net worth of $18 billion; Steven Hao, 30 years old, is the youngest billionaire in the United States, co-founding Cognition in 2023 after leaving Scale AI. The company has a valuation of $48 billion, with a net worth of $5.8 billion.

Among non-AI entrepreneurs, Vlad Tenev, 39 years old, is the CEO of Robinhood, with a net worth of $7.1 billion; Palmer Luckey, 33 years old, founded Oculus and sold it to Meta, and later co-founded defense technology company Anduril, with a net worth of $5.9 billion.

Only two young billionaires on the list do not live in California, apart from Walton in Illinois, the other is Edwin Chen in New York.
