President Donald Trump has once again responded to the recent discussions around AI safety in his trademark style—claiming that concerns about AI risks are simply "one of the long-standing scams fabricated by radical left-wing Democrats aimed at destroying our country."

Saturday local time, Trump first spoke about AI on his social media platform Truth Social. He wrote, "Many people believe that the term 'artificial intelligence' itself is inaccurate and the wording used to refer to AI is awkward." To address this, he launched a vote on both Truth Social and X platforms, asking fans to choose a new name for the technology: "Superior Intelligence," "Extreme Intelligence," or "Supreme Intelligence." The vote is still ongoing, with over 180,000 participants on X, where "Superior Intelligence" currently leads with 40.4% of the votes.

"Scam Theory" and Forming an AI Force

Several hours later, Trump posted again, claiming that attempts to "undermine or destroy AI" were just another in a series of Democratic scams, and insisted that he "would not stand by and let this happen." According to him, this scam originally targeted data centers, but when people realized that data centers could bring wealth and prestige to communities, this wave of criticism largely failed. Then critics turned directly against AI.

However, Trump provided no evidence to suggest that concerns about AI and data centers were not genuine public views. In fact, both Republicans and Democrats have raised doubts about large data centers; New York State recently became the first state in the U.S. to suspend approval of construction permits for large data centers.

Trump said he would "cherish the AI industry, support it, and protect its continued growth," while also forming an AI Force, similar to how he established the Space Force during his first term. "I will soon announce the appointment of an AI 'Czar.' Only high-IQ individuals need apply!" he added, though he did not specify their exact responsibilities. David Sacks, a venture capitalist, had already stepped down from his role as Trump's AI and cryptocurrency advisor earlier this year.

Recent discussions about AI safety have intensified after a researcher left Anthropic, claiming that top AI executives "genuinely believe that artificial intelligence could destroy all of humanity before the end of this decade." Since then, Amodei has proposed a plan to "slow the pace of development of frontier models," which Otterman and Musk have supported; some critics argue that the so-called existential crisis is actually avoiding the real harms AI has already caused.

At the All-In Summit, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang called Trump and agreed that the movement to resist AI is a "scam," and stated, "We will not allow the AI industry to slow down." Previously, Trump had said he was not opposed to "guardrail-style regulation" during a golf tournament.
