According to Business Insider, employees responsible for security at the California offices of tech companies such as Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI are planning to strike this week.

On the morning of the 15th local time, these security personnel submitted a 72-hour strike notice, preparing to refuse any shifts starting at 4:30 AM local time on the 18th. The union SEIU-USWW stated that they are responsible for the security of large corporate office buildings including Amazon, Microsoft, Salesforce, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and NVIDIA.

If the strike proceeds, some offices may be forced to close, and companies may ask employees to work from home. However, technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area have not yet announced such arrangements. As of Tuesday, the strike had not been finalized yet.

Months of Negotiations: Demanding Pay Raises, Improved Healthcare, and Training

Negotiations between the security company and SEIU-USWW over a new contract have not yet reached an agreement. The union represents about 14,000 security personnel in California. A spokesperson for SEIU-USWW said that the union and the security company will continue negotiations on Wednesday and Thursday. The negotiations over a unified contract have lasted for several months, with security personnel mainly demanding higher wages, improved health care, and more comprehensive job training.

According to a union press release, security personnel plan to march from downtown San Francisco to Salesforce Tower on Tuesday. Earlier, on September 3rd, they had announced their authorization for a strike at a rally in San Francisco. Christopher Yates, a security personnel from Hayward working for Allied Universal, made a statement via email at that time: "We demand that Allied and other security companies stop playing games and return to the negotiation table to reach a solid contract that truly includes pay raises, improved training, and respects those who protect the safety of these buildings."
