Atty Eleti, the product manager for OpenAI's voice products, officially announced that ChatGPT Voice has undergone a major feature upgrade. In this update, users can now freely choose their preferred model and reasoning depth during voice interactions. Subscribers to the Pro plan can directly access top-tier models such as GPT-5.6Sol or GPT-6Astra. When users trigger web searches or complex logical reasoning during conversations, the voice system will automatically switch to the specified powerful model to handle the relevant tasks.
To help users better understand the operational mechanism, the official stated that every time the voice mode transfers the user's voice conversation to the underlying text model for processing, this process is considered as sending an independent message to the model. With the full integration of the underlying large model, voice communication has become more intelligent, and it also puts forward new requirements for the overall quota mechanism.
With this upgrade in model capabilities, OpenAI has also fully simplified and optimized the daily usage limit rules for GPT-Live. The specific adjustment plan is divided into four tiers: the Go plan provides up to 3 hours of GPT-Live-1mini usage time, and no longer offers access to the basic version of GPT-Live-1; the Plus plan provides up to 3 hours of GPT-Live-1 usage time; the Pro plan at the $100 per month tier offers up to 15 hours of GPT-Live-1 usage time, while the top-tier Pro plan at $200 per month allows unlimited use of GPT-Live-1.
Notably, the platform has also made humanized adjustments to its benefit protection: when the voice quota of Plus and Pro users is exhausted, the system will no longer automatically downgrade to the lightweight GPT-Live mini. In addition, with the official implementation of the new mechanism, the original three independent voice intelligence levels "Instant, Medium, High" have officially been discontinued, marking a transition to a new era of interaction centered on free selection of large models and reasoning depth.
