WeChat officially announced recently that the WeChat Pay smart glasses SDK is now fully available. This solution packages WeChat's core "scan to pay" payment capability into a standard SDK, which is open to smart glasses manufacturers that meet the access standards, allowing users to complete payments smoothly directly on compatible smart glasses in the future. Currently, the Rokid Leqi AI glasses have become the first product to complete adaptation and go live.

Activation and Daily Payment Process

Before using the smart glasses' scan-to-pay feature for the first time, users need to apply for activation in the phone app of the glasses manufacturer, then be redirected to a WeChat mini program to verify the payment password. After successful verification, the smart glasses will be officially bound to the WeChat account.

After completing the initial binding, the daily payment process can be simply broken down into four steps:

 Activation: Users just need to say "WeChat scan" to activate the function.

 Scanning: Direct your gaze at the merchant's payment QR code.

 Confirmation: Check the merchant and amount information displayed on the glasses screen, then slide the temple arm to confirm the payment.

 Result: After a successful payment, the glasses screen will display the payment result in real time, accompanied by a voice announcement.

WeChat official stated that this is not a new payment method, but still essentially the "scan to pay" payment capability of WeChat Pay. Users do not need to learn new operations or prepare or register for new accounts.

Safety Mechanisms and Functional Limits

In terms of security and fund risk control, the WeChat scan-to-pay on smart glasses uses a small payment model. The current basic version supports a daily consumption limit of 200 yuan. If the glasses device is equipped with iris or fingerprint identification functions, it can enjoy a higher limit. During use, the smart glasses must remain connected to the mobile WeChat app, and funds will only be deducted after the user actively slides the temple arm to confirm.

Regarding applicable scenarios, the SDK currently only supports scanning payment codes for payment, specifically including face-to-face payment codes, individual business payment codes, and aggregated payment codes provided by major service providers and banks. It mainly focuses on high-frequency, small-scale daily transaction scenarios such as convenience stores, vegetable markets, and roadside stalls. However, the SDK does not currently support scanning mini program codes, adding friends, identifying items, jumping to mini programs, or scanning to rent equipment, among other scan-to-pay functions.
