NVIDIA and MediaTek announced on August 31st to deepen their long-term collaboration, with both companies working together to create the next-generation AI computing platform covering AI infrastructure, local AI computing, and automotive fields. As part of the expanded cooperation, NVIDIA also invested in a $3.5 billion (approximately RMB 23.577 billion) convertible bond of MediaTek.
Comprehensive Collaboration in Three Areas, Custom XPU Integrated into NVIDIA AI Factory
According to the announcement, MediaTek will adopt the NVIDIA NVLink Fusion platform to provide pre-validated paths for large-scale enterprises, cloud service providers, and cutting-edge model developers to develop custom XPU and introduce them into the rack-level AI factory connected by NVIDIA NVLink.
The core logic of the collaboration is complementary strengths: NVIDIA will provide accelerated computing, artificial intelligence, graphics, and software platforms, while MediaTek will contribute its capabilities in custom chips, high-performance computing, energy-efficient system-on-chip (SoC) design, advanced packaging, interconnects, and connectivity.
Specifically, the collaboration focuses on three areas. In AI infrastructure, MediaTek will work with NVIDIA's NVLink Fusion ecosystem to help customers develop customized AI infrastructure and integrate it with NVIDIA rack-level systems and AI factories. In the automotive sector, the two companies will continue to develop software-defined vehicle platforms based on AI-driven approaches for the "AI-driven physical era."
