Google DeepMind recently announced that the Gemma series of models, designed to help developers build responsible and innovative AI applications anywhere, has officially surpassed one billion downloads worldwide. Data shows that over the past two years, developers have released more than 100,000 variations of the Gemma model, collectively building a thriving innovation ecosystem called the "Gemmaverse."

With high flexibility, the Gemma model can be deployed in various complex environments, from local devices, edge infrastructure, and even space. Currently, Gemma has officially entered outer space, with teams such as NASA, Satlyt, and Starcloud running the model directly in orbit to support on-board image analysis, optimize limited downlink bandwidth, and route interstellar communication, fully demonstrating its excellent ability to handle complex reasoning tasks in extreme constrained environments.

In ground-based civil and medical research fields, Gemma has also achieved breakthrough progress. The National Health Authority (NHA) of India integrated Gemma4 and Google's open-source medical data toolkit into the Aarogya Setu 2.0 app, which has more than 100 million downloads, effectively helping local residents convert complex medical reports into standardized digital formats and securely manage and share health data between different medical institutions. In addition, researchers from Yale University and Google built the C2S-Scale model based on Gemma, successfully discovering and verifying a new cancer treatment pathway in living cells, achieving a historic breakthrough in AI systems for such medical mechanisms. Furthermore, the specialized medical model MedGemma is widely used in clinical practice around the world, such as supporting outpatient triage at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and assisting healthcare workers in rural Uganda.

The model's influence has even extended to the underwater world. Through collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Wild Dolphin Project, researchers developed DolphinGemma, which processes complex dolphin vocalizations and predicts sound sequences, opening up a new direction for cross-species communication research.
