Major progress has been made in the field of AI programming tools. The well-known AI code editor Cursor has recently officially launched a new code hosting service called Origin, and it is now available for early testing to all paid plan users. This move is seen as a key step for the platform to face the mainstream development ecosystem and create a GitHub alternative.
According to the information, Origin is deeply integrated with core functions required for daily development, supporting code repository creation, pull requests, code browsing, and seamless synchronization with GitHub. Users can not only directly create repositories with specific prefixes but also synchronize existing GitHub projects to the Origin platform, achieving bidirectional synchronization of comments and code reviews.
In terms of ecosystem integration and future plans, Origin has already integrated mainstream development and deployment tools such as Vercel, Depot, and Buildkite during the testing phase. Meanwhile, the official team has also revealed more forward-looking agent features that are about to be launched, aiming to further empower developers' code hosting and collaboration processes through AI capabilities.
