According to Bloomberg, the distributed database vendor OceanBase is in talks with several top institutions for an A-round financing of 2 to 3 billion yuan, aiming to enhance its independent operations and accelerate its expansion into an AI data platform. According to insiders, OceanBase's annualized revenue reached over 1.4 billion yuan in 2026, representing a year-on-year growth of about 70%. It has thousands of customers, including Bank of Communications and China Mobile, and has already expanded into overseas markets such as Southeast Asia, Japan, India, and Latin America. Ant Group, OceanBase, and Ant Digital have not responded to requests for comments.
In terms of technology and products, OceanBase was born in 2010 and has undergone years of testing during the "Singles' Day" traffic surges. According to an IDC report, it ranked first in the local deployment market share of distributed databases in China in 2025. The company now competes with Databricks, expanding from core transaction systems to full-scale enterprise data management and Agent data supply, enhancing unstructured data processing capabilities, and launching a new generation of lakehouse-integrated AI database in June of this year to advance commercialization.
Since establishing an independent board of directors and an independent equity incentive mechanism in 2024, OceanBase has significantly accelerated its market-oriented progress. This financing marks a key step forward in OceanBase's independent operations and reflects that Ant Group's innovative business is gradually building an independent governance and financing mechanism, accelerating its journey toward external market validation.
