According to Insider, citing insiders, Amazon is making significant adjustments to its AI strategy, halting the active development of most of its in-house Nova series large models. This reduction covers the flagship Nova Premier and Omni models, the Reel video model, and the Canvas image generator; these models have been moved into "maintenance mode," serving only existing customers. Previously, Amazon had already laid off staff in its AGI department and shut down the AGI lab established after acquiring Adept in 2024.

Although it has scaled back its first in-house product lines, Amazon has not exited the competition for top-tier AI. Currently, R&D resources are fully redirected to the cutting-edge model research team led by Peter Abeles (who joined through the acquisition of robot startup Covariant). A new foundational model is expected to be officially announced at this year's re:Invent conference. An Amazon spokesperson emphasized that AI models remain one of the company's most core projects. At the same time, as one of the largest supporters of Anthropic and OpenAI, its related investments may have exceeded $10 billion.

This adjustment indicates that tech giants are shifting from "spreading out across multiple fronts" to "concentrating resources on a single top-tier cutting-edge model." While strengthening its cloud ecosystem and external investments, Amazon is striving to reshape its competitive position in the forefront of large models through precise technological breakthroughs.
