Anthropic announced on July 23, 2026, a major update to the voice mode of its conversational assistant Claude, officially introducing support for the Opus and Sonnet models, as well as adding cross-application ecosystem automation capabilities. This marks an important step forward in AI voice interaction, transitioning from basic question-and-answer functions to complex task fulfillment.

Previously, Claude's voice mode relied only on the lightweight Haiku model, which offered extremely fast response times but had clear limitations when handling deep reasoning and complex tasks. After this upgrade, the voice mode will default to inheriting the last model selected by the user in text chats (including Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku), and automatically match the fastest version within each model to ensure response efficiency.

At the same time, the voice mode has officially connected with application ecosystems such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion. Users can now directly trigger complex operations such as updating meeting schedules, drafting emails, or creating documents through voice commands, forming a differentiated capability advantage compared to competitors in terms of tool integration.

In terms of language support, the new version now officially covers 10 major languages, including English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish (Latin America/Spain), based on earlier beta tests. Users can manually select and switch languages in the settings.

Currently, this voice mode update is available to all platform beta test users. Free users can only connect to a single application when using the Haiku model, while paid subscribers can unlock full model selection and multi-application collaboration capabilities.

Although Anthropic has not yet restructured the underlying voice stack (still using a turn-based dialogue mechanism, without adopting a full-duplex architecture), combining the general reasoning capabilities of high-level large models with external toolchains has significantly expanded the application boundaries of voice interaction in areas such as business reasoning, product discussions, and office automation.
