Amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, Samsung Foundry recently secured a chip manufacturing contract with AI startup Anthropic. This news not only injects new vitality into Samsung's foundry business, but may also help it reverse its recent financial difficulties.

Anthropic has emerged as a key player in the industry with its advanced AI models. As the AI semiconductor market becomes increasingly concentrated, major companies such as NVIDIA, Google, OpenAI, and Amazon are actively developing their own chips to meet market demand. In this market environment, Anthropic's choice is particularly significant. According to sources, the collaboration with Anthropic is expected to drive the recovery of Samsung's foundry business and put it back on a growth trajectory.

The opportunity for this collaboration can be traced back to Anthropic's Series H funding round in May of this year. The company announced a series of strategic partners at that time, including memory manufacturing giants Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. Anthropic stated that these companies will help it expand its computing capabilities in a customer-oriented way. Analysts point out that Samsung, as the only company with non-memory chip manufacturing capabilities, has a high probability of winning the order.

In addition to the collaboration with Anthropic, Samsung has also made progress in another important project — Tesla's AI5 chip has entered the tape-out stage. Tape-out is the final step in chip design, meaning the design layout has been handed over to the foundry for production. A senior engineer from Samsung Foundry confirmed this news on LinkedIn, stating that Tesla's AI5 chip will be produced at the Taylor factory using a 2nm process and will soon be used in Tesla's new products.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk highly praised this chip, believing its performance will be comparable to NVIDIA's flagship products and have significant advantages in manufacturing cost and energy efficiency. As orders from Anthropic and Tesla continue to progress, Samsung Foundry is striving to re-establish itself in the competitive advanced process market.
