OpenAI has recently introduced a new feature called "Record & Replay" for the Codex app on macOS, marking another significant technological advancement in the field of AI agents and white-collar work automation. This feature allows users to guide a workflow once (such as demonstrating how to upload a YouTube video with metadata, thumbnails, and subtitles), enabling Codex to convert the recorded actions into reusable "skills" that can be autonomously and indefinitely executed afterward.
In terms of specific feature improvements, the newly released version 26.616 also adds a batch operation function for automated history records and supports switching threads between local and remote hosts, allowing users to continue task execution on connected machines. Notably, the implementation of this feature deeply relies on the "Computer Use" permission, which was launched in the EU region on June 16, 2026.
However, due to policy and compliance reasons, the "Record & Replay" feature is currently unavailable in the EU, UK, and Switzerland. The application currently follows a "free download + premium service" business model, and users need a paid ChatGPT account to unlock all features.
This move not only deepens OpenAI's layout in edge-side automation but also reflects the definite trend in the AI industry from "conversational interaction" to "proactive execution agents." By lowering the barrier to complex workflow automation, Codex is accelerating the reconfiguration of the interaction logic of daily office and productivity tools.
