Recently, many people have been concerned about the impact of artificial intelligence on the job market. Alex Imais, head of AGI economics at Google DeepMind and a professor of economics at the University of Chicago, gave a clear opinion on this in an interview.

Imais stated that there is currently no evidence to confirm that AI has caused job losses, and there has been no large-scale unemployment among white-collar workers. Even in the software engineering industry, which is closely related to AI, the employment situation has not changed significantly. In his view, AI is more likely to take over repetitive tasks, helping employees focus on work that machines cannot do, thus effectively improving overall efficiency.

At the same time, Imais issued a warning that an incorrect trend is gradually emerging within the industry, where it is believed that companies that do not lay off employees are lagging behind in AI transformation. Influenced by this "fear of missing out," it is easy to trigger a blind wave of layoffs. Some companies, in an effort to create the illusion of embracing AI, choose to lay off employees, ultimately harming their own operations and resulting in more loss than gain.

A spokesperson for DeepMind also agreed with these views, stating that existing data is insufficient to prove that white-collar jobs have suffered serious losses. The CEO of the organization had previously mentioned that AI not only improves employee efficiency but also has the potential to create new job positions. At this stage, AI has not caused a widespread impact on the job market.

Key Points:

🔍 Industry experts state that there is currently no evidence indicating that AI has caused large-scale job losses, and the employment situation in relevant industries remains stable.

⚠️ Experts warn companies not to follow the trend of laying off employees. Simply laying off workers to keep up with the AI trend can harm the company's own development.

⚙️ The current role of AI is mainly to improve work efficiency, and it may also create new job positions in the future.
