ByteDance's large model application, Douyin, is expected to officially launch paid content at the end of June and update related features simultaneously at the Force conference, marking a substantial step forward in the commercialization of the largest large model in China.

According to the information, this timeline was determined mainly due to the need for about one month to adapt and modify basic functions and billing systems on both PC and mobile platforms. If the overall business proceeds smoothly, Douyin plans to further integrate e-commerce features in the third quarter to improve the paid scenario. At that time, it will use targeted subsidies to drive traffic to the Douyin Mall, and enter a stable operation phase by the fourth quarter.

ByteDance Douyin Large Model

As a key strategic preparation for commercial returns by 2027 and beyond, Douyin will not set the penetration rate of paid users as a core performance indicator in 2026. This commercial move had already been hinted before, with the App Store page of Douyin leaking a service statement for a paid version in early May, clearly stating that it would offer a paid version with more value-added services for professional users on top of the free version. The leaked subscription prices are divided into three tiers: Standard Edition monthly subscription at 68 yuan (annual subscription at 688 yuan), Enhanced Edition monthly subscription at 200 yuan (annual subscription at 2048 yuan), and Professional Edition monthly subscription at 500 yuan (annual subscription at 5088 yuan).

As a trendsetter for consumer-side large models, Douyin's shift from "purely free" to a "free plus value-added" model signifies that large model applications are accelerating their transition from the initial "land grabbing" phase to exploring sustainable self-sustaining paths. Its deep integration with the Douyin e-commerce ecosystem will also provide a new industry paradigm for AI application monetization.
