With the emergence of next-generation artificial intelligence models with advanced programming capabilities, global cybersecurity is facing unprecedented challenges. Today, hackers can easily identify various cybersecurity vulnerabilities and quickly develop new methods to exploit these vulnerabilities for malicious attacks. To prevent this new threat of AI-driven cyberattacks, the Japanese Ministry of Finance has recently announced a high-profile collaboration with the AI giant OpenAI.
The US and Japan Government Join Forces to Strengthen Cyber Warfare
According to Japanese Minister of Finance Kōtsu Katayama, after a closed-door meeting with the Chief Strategy Officer of OpenAI, OpenAI has officially granted access to the latest GPT-5.5 Cyber model to some key Japanese financial institutions. This decision is an important outcome of in-depth negotiations between the Japanese and US governments, aiming to enhance the cybersecurity and risk resistance capabilities of Japan's entire financial system by deploying top-tier defensive AI models in advance.
Multiple Models Working Together to Build a Security Defense Line
According to industry sources, Japan's three major financial giants, including Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Mizuho Bank, are expected to be among the first to gain access to this mysterious new model. In addition, to address potential systemic risks in the financial sector, the Japanese government will later introduce the Claude Mythos model from Anthropic, attempting to build an unbreakable joint cybersecurity defense line between the government and enterprises through collaborative operations of multiple models.
