To compete with streaming giants who are intensifying their video podcast offerings and attract the core audio audience of Spotify and Apple Podcasts, YouTube announced on Thursday a series of new features for Premium subscribers. The core of this update lies in comprehensively upgrading the listening experience through personalized exploration and hands-free operation modes.
In terms of intelligent recommendations, YouTube has expanded its "Ask Music" feature, originally used for music services, to the podcast domain. Premium users can now completely avoid aimless searching and directly use the AI recommendation tool to generate personalized podcast lists based on their preferred genres, current moods, or ongoing shows with one click.

Regarding the common issue of uneven speech speed during daily listening, this update introduced the practical "Auto Speed" (Auto speed) feature. Unlike the previous mechanical fixed-speed playback, this feature can intelligently identify the audio content and automatically adjust the playback speed when the host speaks slowly or during high-information-density segments. This not only makes the listening process smoother and more efficient but also perfectly ensures the listener's understanding of the content.
Additionally, the "On-the-go Mode," designed specifically for outdoor and commuting scenarios, was also launched. This mode provides a minimalistic control interface for listeners during running, commuting, or multitasking. Users can easily perform quick forward, rewind, or switch to the next episode, thus enjoying maximum convenience even when playing in the background.
According to official data, as of April 2026, the total listening time for podcasts on YouTube by Premium users had exceeded 800 million hours, and the monthly active users of YouTube podcasts had surpassed 1 billion. It is reported that the "Auto Speed" and "On-the-go Mode" have already been released to Android Premium users, with iOS users expected to receive updates in the coming months.
