Internet Service Provider Comscore recently released its latest market report on consumer-grade AI chatbots for desktop users in the United States for March 2026. The data shows that ChatGPT, owned by OpenAI, continues to hold the top position in the U.S. market, but the rising star Claude is rapidly catching up from behind with an impressive speed.
Overall, consumer-grade AI platforms in the United States attracted 44.4 million desktop-based unique users in March, marking a month-on-month growth of over 21%. This data indicates that the penetration rate of desktop-based artificial intelligence services among U.S. users is still showing strong growth momentum, driven by technology adoption and user habit formation.
The Top Three Remain Strong
In terms of traffic rankings, ChatGPT achieved 33.86 million unique desktop users in the United States in March, with a month-on-month growth of 18.9%, maintaining its leading position with an absolute advantage. Google's Gemini came in second with 10.66 million unique visitors, showing a month-on-month growth of 29.1%, also performing well.
Following closely was Microsoft Copilot, which reached 5.02 million unique visitors in March, with a staggering month-on-month increase of 44.4%, ranking third nationwide. Although the top three still have a significant advantage in absolute user numbers, the rapid rise of the following groups is making the competitive landscape of the AI market increasingly complex.
Rising Stars Shine Brightly
The most impressive performance in this report came from Claude, a product of Anthropic, which attracted 2.66 million unique visitors in March, with a sharp month-on-month increase of 130.1%. This growth rate ranked first among the top seven, helping it climb to the fourth position in the market and becoming the strongest challenger to the traditional top three.
