Just this Monday, OpenAI, a leading figure in the field of artificial intelligence, officially announced the establishment of a consulting subsidiary called "OpenAI Deployment Co." (abbreviated as DeployCo). The core mission of this new company is to help enterprises overcome technical implementation challenges and directly assist clients in building and deploying complex AI systems.

To quickly enhance practical capabilities, OpenAI also confirmed the acquisition of Tomoro, an application AI consulting and engineering company. Through this move, around 150 senior engineers will join the new company and provide on-site technical support directly at enterprise client locations.

Competing with industry giants, strengthening implementation services

This move is seen as a strong response to competitor Anthropic, which recently formed similar deployment teams with several Wall Street financial institutions. OpenAI clearly aims to directly enter the high-profit market traditionally dominated by consulting giants such as Accenture and Deloitte through this deep integration approach.

Analysts point out that OpenAI's move is emulating Palantir, a big data company, with its "frontline deployment engineer" model. By embedding technical personnel directly into customer environments, it can more effectively address the lack of internal expertise that enterprises face during the AI deployment process.

Face integration challenges, seek business growth

Although DeployCo has an initial operating capital of over $4 billion and has received support from multiple investment institutions such as Bain Capital, its development path is not without obstacles. Industry experts are concerned that as a model developer, OpenAI may face the risk of product homogenization and vendor lock-in when offering consulting services.

Additionally, how to handle competitive relationships with existing ecosystem partners while conducting consulting business is also a challenge for OpenAI. However, as the AI industry enters a critical period of "value monetization," getting close to the front lines of enterprises has become an inevitable choice for major players to explore commercial value.
