To enhance consumer shopping experiences, Tmall has recently announced the addition of the "AI Software and Application Product Release Specifications." This new regulation aims to clarify the behavioral standards for merchants when listing AI software and application products on the platform, ensuring the authenticity and transparency of product information. The public comment period for the new specification ended on April 6, 2026, and it became effective on April 14, 2026.
According to the new regulations, all Tmall merchants must classify AI software and application products under the dedicated category "Online Store / Online Services / Software -> AI Software and Applications" when listing products. The definition of AI software and applications under the new rules covers various types of software and services provided by generative AI, large language models, and multimodal models. This includes service subscriptions and top-ups, licensing and integration, developer resource trading, and deep synthesis applications, among others.
In terms of product attributes, merchants must truthfully indicate the delivery method to ensure consumers understand the specific details of the product they are purchasing. Additionally, for products involving "token quotas" or "membership duration," merchants must clearly list the relevant numerical values in the product details to avoid misleading consumers. At the same time, any exaggerated promotion of product features or performance, such as claiming "100% accuracy" or "no account suspension," is strictly prohibited.
Regarding product pricing, Tmall stipulates that token package pricing must conform to market prices and should not deviate from normal ranges. Merchants are also not allowed to force or诱导 consumers into high-value prepayment or private transactions, ensuring fair and secure transactions. Furthermore, when involving overseas model services, merchants must inform users about potential network environment requirements and service stability risks.
Merchants who violate the specifications will face a series of penalties, including product removal, deletion of listings, and point deductions, to ensure the implementation of the regulations.
