In the evolution of AI assistants, how to make AI "remember" and access user-uploaded materials at any time has always been a pain point. Recently, OpenAI officially broke the limitations of the chat window, introducing a new feature called "Library" (Library) for ChatGPT paid users. This means that ChatGPT is no longer just an instant messaging tool, but has evolved into a "smart cloud storage" with deep storage and management capabilities.

Breaking Down Conversation Barriers: Automatic Archiving and Cross-Chat Access
Previously, files uploaded by users were often "locked" in a specific conversation, requiring re-upload when starting a new conversation. The Library feature completely changed this logic:
Automatic Saving: Documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and images uploaded by users during conversations will be automatically saved to the Library space.
Instant Retrieval: No matter how many new conversations you start, just click the attachment button next to the input box, select "Add from Library," and you can instantly retrieve your previous files, greatly improving multi-tasking efficiency.
Two-track Management: To maintain order, user-uploaded files are stored in the Library area, while AI-generated images by ChatGPT are categorized under a separate "Images" tab.
Privacy and Permissions: A Dedicated "Digital Safe" for Paid Users
This feature is currently available for Plus, Pro, and Business paid users. In terms of privacy handling, OpenAI has adopted a relatively strict strategy:
Independent Storage: Deleting a conversation will not synchronously delete the file in the Library, ensuring the security of the data.
Complete Erasure: After a user manually deletes a Library file, OpenAI will completely erase the data from its servers within 30 days. Although this 30-day buffer period has raised compliance speculation, for enterprise users who frequently handle sensitive documents, this clear deletion mechanism provides necessary psychological reassurance.
