The founder of the open-source AI agent project OpenClaw, Peter Steinberger, recently publicly denied rumors, stating that the project has never been on Chinese social media platforms such as Weibo and Bilibili. The currently active "official accounts" and certification information are all fake.
As a popular open-source project in recent developer communities,

The incident originated in early March 2026, when an account with the "OpenClaw Open Source Community" certification appeared on Weibo and quickly attracted interactions from several major domestic AI large model manufacturers. However, Steinberger clearly stated on March 8th through a social platform that he had never held or authorized others to operate a Weibo account. According to insiders, the fake account may have used identity materials of relevant personnel from the project team's China branch to pass the platform's review.
This "imposter" incident not only exposed loopholes in the overseas open-source project certification review mechanisms of domestic social platforms but also reflected the blind mentality of the current AI industry in chasing hot topics and seizing ecological positions. With the increasing depth of open-source ecosystems in productivity, the authenticity of information sources and the boundaries of security have become issues that the industry must face directly.
