To build deeper technical barriers in the "AI Agent" track, AI giant Anthropic has officially announced the acquisition of startup Vercept. This is another significant asset acquisition by Anthropic to enhance the practical capabilities of the Claude model, following its previous acquisition of the coding agent engine Bun in December of last year.

Vercept was born at A12, a renowned AI incubator in Seattle. Its core product is a cloud-based agent called Vy, which can directly control remote MacBooks to perform complex tasks. According to AIbase, the founding team of this startup has an extremely strong background, with most members coming from the Allen Institute for AI. Previously, one of the company's co-founders, Matt Deitke, had caused a stir in the industry when he was lured away by Meta with a $250 million annual salary.
This acquisition did not include all founders; Anthropic mainly absorbed CEO Kiana Ehsani and the core R&D team. Although Vercept had received support from top investors such as former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and DeepMind chief scientist Jeff Dean, raising a total of $50 million in funding, the company ultimately chose the path of acquisition due to Meta's previous poaching and the market's preference for integrated AI.
With the deal finalized, Vercept's existing products will be shut down on March 25. For Anthropic, this "talent + technology" acquisition will directly help the evolution of its "Computer Use" (computer usage) feature, enabling Claude to more accurately simulate human interaction behavior in complex operating systems, thus gaining an edge in the competition with OpenAI's all-around agents.
Summary:
🤝 Strategic Acquisition for Enhancement: Anthropic's acquisition of Vercept aims to absorb its deep research achievements in the field of "computer use" type AI agents, enhancing the automation capabilities of Claude.
🏆 Top Team Joining: The Vercept team includes several former top AI researchers. Although some members have moved to Meta, the addition of the core team will significantly strengthen Anthropic's technical capabilities.
💻 Focused on Interaction Scenarios: By integrating Vercept's experience with cloud-based operation agents, Anthropic is accelerating its transition from "chatbot" to "autonomous task-executing digital employees."
