According to AIbase, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, recently had a fierce public confrontation on the social platform X. This "verbal battle" between tech giants not only exposed the safety flaws of each other's core products but also revealed deep rifts between the two AI factions in terms of law, business models, and future strategies.

AI, robot fight, squabble, battle

Musk launched the first attack, questioning the severe psychological manipulation risks of ChatGPT. He shared and commented on a post accusing ChatGPT of causing the deaths of nine users, captioning it with a warning: "Don't let your loved ones use ChatGPT." Musk implied that the model lacks strict ethical standards and safety measures, which could lead vulnerable people to dangerous thoughts such as suicide or murder. OpenAI is currently facing multiple lawsuits related to non-normal deaths, alleging that its model's shortcomings in psychological intervention worsened users' mental crises.

In response to the accusations, Altman quickly launched a "defensive counterattack," turning his focus to the safety of Tesla's autonomous driving. On one hand, he acknowledged that balancing the usefulness and safety of AI tools is extremely difficult. On the other hand, he used data comparisons to retaliate, pointing out that over 50 people have died in accidents related to Tesla's Autopilot. Altman stated he had personally tested the system and believed it was "far from safe," even sarcastically saying, "Every time you make an accusation, it's a confession," implying that Musk is trying to shift public attention away from his own product flaws by criticizing others.

Beneath the escalating personal feud lies a major legal dispute regarding OpenAI's organizational transformation. Musk has officially filed a lawsuit against Altman and his leadership, accusing them of deviating from the nonprofit organization's mission and becoming a "profit-making machine" under Microsoft's control. Musk emphasized that his early donation of $38 million was based on the promise that the organization would remain open-source and charitable. Altman, however, accused Musk of making malicious harassment due to his failure to gain control of the company. The case has been approved by the judge to enter the jury trial process and is expected to officially start trial
