Google recently announced that it will invest up to $4 billion in Texas through its "Invest in America" initiative to enhance its artificial intelligence infrastructure. This investment, which will continue until 2027, includes plans to build three new data centers. One of them will be located in Armstrong County in northern Texas, while the other two will be in Haskell County in western Texas, near Abilene. Notably, one of the data centers will be built alongside a new solar and battery storage facility to reduce its impact on the power grid.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed on LinkedIn that the company will also expand its existing data center campus in Ellis County, south of Dallas. In response to the increasing demand for energy resources in Texas, Google revealed that its investment also includes establishing a $30 million energy impact fund aimed at promoting and supporting community energy efficiency initiatives. Additionally, Google has committed to working with the Electrical Training Alliance to train current electricians and more than 1,700 apprentices by 2030, to develop talent capable of building these infrastructures. This number is almost twice the number of new electricians in Texas.

Google and its parent company Alphabet already have a strong presence in Texas, including office facilities, existing data centers, Waymo autonomous taxi services, and Wing drone delivery services. Pichai stated that the era of artificial intelligence will further strengthen this relationship and praised Texas' optimism and talent, calling it a leader in the new golden age of American innovation.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also expressed appreciation for this development, stating that Google's $4 billion investment makes Texas the largest investment state for Google in the United States, while supporting the state's energy efficiency and workforce development. He emphasized that the United States must ensure it leads in the artificial intelligence revolution, and Texas is the best place to achieve this goal.

With its abundant land resources and relatively low energy costs, more companies are choosing to establish cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Texas. Recently, Anthropic also announced a $5 billion investment in the United States, including the construction of data centers in Texas. In addition, the "Starlink" project between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank is also establishing data centers in the state, with the first data center located in Abilene, followed by additional ones in Shackelford County and Milan County. Microsoft has partnered with the UK-based Nscale to plan a super-large artificial intelligence campus in Barstow. Meanwhile, Meta recently announced a $1.5 billion data center plan in El Paso, which is its third data center in Texas.
