Google announced that its AI note-taking and research assistant NotebookLM has added the "Deep Research" tool, which can automatically complete complex online research and now supports additional file types such as Google Sheets, Drive links, PDFs, and Microsoft Word. All features will be pushed to all users within a week.

The Deep Research feature offers two modes: "Quick" and "Deep." The former returns brief sources instantly, while the latter browses hundreds of web pages in the background and generates a comprehensive report with citations. Users can add additional sources on the fly, and both the report and cited materials can be saved directly to the notebook with one click. The entry point is located in the source panel; select "Web" to switch to research mode.

In terms of file types, users can now batch import Drive files by pasting URLs, directly add Sheets, PDFs, and .docx documents, and perform statistics or summaries on table data. Google stated that this update aims to help users build a systematic knowledge base without leaving their workflow.

Since its release at the end of 2023, NotebookLM has gradually added features such as Audio Overview, Video Overview, and a mobile app. Google revealed that in the coming weeks, further expansions to visualization templates and multimodal output options will be made.
