Google will make a major investment in Germany, planning to invest about 5.5 billion euros (approximately 6.4 billion US dollars), which is its largest investment in Europe so far, and it is expected to be completed by 2029. The core goal of this investment project is to accelerate Google's layout in the AI field in Germany, aiming to take the leading position in the local market.
One of the main contents of this investment is the construction of a new data center in Dietzenbach, located to the southeast of Frankfurt. At the same time, Google will also increase its investment in the existing data center in Hanau, which is about 15 miles from Dietzenbach. The new data center and the expanded existing facilities will become an important part of Google's cloud service network in Germany. This network covers 42 regions worldwide, aimed at providing enterprises with the computing infrastructure needed to develop AI applications.

In Germany, many well-known companies, such as Mercedes-Benz and the printing technology company Koenig & Bauer, have already started using Google's cloud services. Google's AI services include the generative AI platform Vertex AI and the Gemini model. The company said it will continue to provide sovereign cloud systems to ensure that enterprises can follow local regulations and meet the high attention of European countries on technological sovereignty.
Additionally, the data center in Dietzenbach will also become Google's first heat recovery project in Germany, planned to cooperate with the local heating company EVO to deliver excess heat generated by the center to more than 2,000 households. This initiative echoes a similar project in Finland, highlighting the company's environmental awareness.
The investment plan also includes increasing office space in Munich, Berlin, and Frankfurt, and cooperating with local institutions and educational institutions to launch multiple digital skills training programs. Karsten Wildberger, Minister for Digital Transformation and Modernization of the German Government, welcomed this investment, saying that this investment shows that Germany is attractive in terms of digital infrastructure investment.
Marianne Janik, Vice President of Google Cloud EMEA North, said: "A sovereign digital future must be built in Europe, serving Europe. We hope to be a trusted partner in Germany, working together to create a safe, sovereign, and sustainable future."
