AI company Anthropic will invest $50 billion in the United States to build AI infrastructure. The first phase of the project will include building customized data centers in Texas and New York, aiming to support the company's growing enterprise business and long-term research plans. This project is developed in collaboration with AI cloud platform Fluidstack, which provides large-scale GPU cluster services to well-known clients such as Meta and Midjourney.

The first data centers are expected to go into operation in 2026 and will create about 800 permanent jobs and more than 2,000 construction jobs. With the increasing emphasis on domestic computing power and technological sovereignty in the United States, Anthropic's investment makes it an important player in the US AI infrastructure sector. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, stated that these data centers will help the company accelerate scientific discoveries, solve complex problems in new ways, and create more job opportunities in the United States.
This move comes amid OpenAI, Anthropic's competitor, also intensifying its infrastructure construction. OpenAI has obtained over $1.4 trillion in infrastructure commitment funds by reaching agreements with multiple cloud service providers, raising concerns about the US power supply and industry bubble. Anthropic currently serves over 300,000 enterprises, with its main revenue coming from large enterprise clients. In the past year, the number of large clients with annual revenue exceeding $100,000 has grown nearly six times, and Anthropic is expected to achieve profitability by 2028.
To achieve its development goals, Anthropic has chosen to collaborate with Fluidstack to build customized facilities optimized for its AI workloads. Fluidstack is favored for its fast construction speed and ability to provide gigawatt-level power support. In addition, Amazon has established a dedicated data center campus in Indiana for Anthropic at a cost of $1.1 billion.
Throughout this process, the role of the US federal government in AI infrastructure financing has sparked controversy. Last week, OpenAI requested the government to expand the scope of key tax credits under the CHIPS and Science Act to include components such as AI data centers, reflecting the political and financial uncertainty behind current AI infrastructure financing.
